Securing Water for Agricultural and Food Sustainability

Sustainable use of groundwater is becoming increasingly critical in India and requires effective participation from local communities along with technical, social, economic, policy and political inputs. Access to groundwater for farming communities is also an emotional and complex issue as their livelihood and survival depend on it. We are collaborating with researchers in India and Australia and using a transdisciplinary approach to understand the issues, challenges and options for improving the sustainability of groundwater use in the states of Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Gujarat and Karnataka, India.
